We have been traveling to the British Virgin Islands since 1997. Typically we fly through San Juan. On our most recent trip we decided to fly into St. Thomas and take the fast ferry over to the BVI. The flights were a lot less expensive and entering the BVI at the Road Town Ferry Terminal was quick and painless. From now on we will travel this way as it saves money, time and has become a fun part of the adventure each year.

Hey... your on "island time" The water ferry is interesting and widely used by the locals. We felt safe and experienced no problems. I found it fun and adventurous. Unless you have a plane, a boat or like to swim, its your only way to see some of the busier islands.

What a total ZOO! Wow, very unorganized, little help and those that were there to help had their hand out all the time. Reservations! Ha, sure....Get there an hour ahead of departure time at least, you pay for yourself and your LUGGAGE. Do not ride the small ferry, take one of the big green ones.

Get here early and be sure to get everything together first and then go upstairs and have some drinks cause you probably just flew in from somewhere and are ready for your vacation. If you haven't been to the caribbean before patience is of the essence. So be sure you have tagged your bag(s) have your ticket in hand as well as passport ask what time the boat should be leaving as they are rarely on time. Have a few drinks and know that the next hour will be a bumpy ride so probably a good time to take the dramamine as well if you get motion sickness.
